TakeFax

Forward your fax line

How to point your existing eFax provider at TakeFax so inbound faxes flow into your triage inbox.

You have two ways to get inbound faxes into TakeFax:

  1. Forward your existing fax number to a DID we provision for you (recommended for day one — works in minutes, your patients and referrers see no change).
  2. Port your fax number over to us so we're the only carrier (no double-hop, included free on every paid plan, takes 7–14 business days).

This guide covers forwarding. Porting is a separate guide and a separate request.

What you'll need

  • Admin access to your current eFax provider's dashboard
  • The DID we gave you at signup (it looks like +1XXX5550100 — find it under Settings → Fax line)

Telnyx

  1. Sign in to your Telnyx dashboard
  2. Go to Programmable Fax → Numbers → [your number]
  3. Under Forward to, paste the TakeFax DID
  4. Save

Inbound faxes will start arriving in TakeFax within seconds of being received by Telnyx.

Documo / mFax

  1. Sign in to your Documo dashboard
  2. Go to Numbers → [your number] → Inbound
  3. Set the forwarding destination to the TakeFax DID
  4. Save

Phaxio

  1. Sign in to your Phaxio dashboard
  2. Open your inbound number's settings
  3. Add the TakeFax DID as the forward destination
  4. Save

SignalWire

  1. Sign in to your SignalWire space
  2. Open the LaML script associated with your fax number
  3. Replace the <Receive> action with a <Dial> to the TakeFax DID
  4. Save

Verifying it works

Send a test fax from any device to your existing number. Within 60 seconds you should see it land in your TakeFax inbox with a classification badge and extracted patient + sender (if visible in the fax).

If nothing arrives:

  • Check your eFax provider's call logs to confirm the inbound fax was received
  • Check that the forwarding destination matches the TakeFax DID exactly
  • Email hello@takefax.com — we'll trace it on our side
